ripped off!

Hello all! It's a bit sad that I have to do this post, but I feel it necessary to get the word out... as you can see from the image above, my Mister Fox illustration ha been ripped-off by another illustrator... and worse, they are selling product with the image on it in their DaWanda shop! You can see the rip-offs here.
What cheek! It makes me sad and angry when artists feel they can get away with such blatant plagiarism.
I will be contacting the illustrator later today to try and sort this out. But in the meantime, if any of you feel you would like to spread the word about this incident please feel free to blog or tweet about it :) We need to do what we can to stamp out nasty copycats!! xo

I am so sorry to hear that! I really know how you feel as my owls have been copied and I watched them selling 'copies' on the same website:( I am trying just to let it go, which is very hard.... I can say from my own experience the 'copies' are not as nice and you can see it! Hopefully, customers can too!

I mean it is cool when other artists get inspiration from you but when they make the exact SAME thing and SELL it that is something to be a bit pissed about. How very rude and uncreative.

Sorry about your work getting ripped off.I hate when this sort of thing happen to illustrators and I get really hesitant about posting work on my blog.

The nerve of some people to steal someone's work to compensate for a total lack of creativity. Spreading the word on my blog. Go get 'em girl!

Hi Bee...that is such a blatent rip-off, & cannot believe that someone would be so blatant!..Have you got an Australian Illustrators Organisation?..I am a member of The Association of Illustrators here n the UK who are good at advising on these matters. Liuckily, I've only ever seen a vague rip-off of my work once, and let it pass-by, but this is different!..hope they appologise & remove it!..Sean

Thats so blinking rude- it makes you want to hide your work away when it shouldn't have to be like that!
Fight em to the hills I say!x

I've had this happen to me too. As you say, it is sad that you have to deal with it. I hope you are able to get it all worked out. Your Mr. Fox is so much better than the rip off!

Just curious, do you timely register your works? If so, are you getting a lawyer involved? I'm a photographer, and it's sooo important to register. Read this article. It applies mostly to photos, but it can apply towards any design/intellectual property. The damages you can collect are the same:

How to Recover Damages When Someone Steals Your Intellectual Property
